| This distribution
map shows a mosaic of national parks and reserves in Kenya in relation
to the study area shown in red. African wild dogs are protected in those
parks and reserves in which they are found. Because wild dogs range widely,
however, they often roam outside these protected areas, coming into conflict
with people. Where possible, corridors between parks and reserves need
to be created. Corridors would that serve to buffer potential human/wild
dog conflict and contribute to gene flow. Such spaces would benefit other
endangered/threatened species in the region as well. |
